BOROUGH RATE IS LOWERED BY 7½d TO Is o¼d
The rate to be levied at Whakatane this year is Is Old in the pound, which is a decrease of 7-ad on the 1949-50 rate. This was decided at the monthly meeting of the, 'Whakatane Borough Council. In many cases the individual rates will be increased because of the new land valuations but other property owners will experience a lowering of the rate for the same reason.
The figure Is Old is expected to produce £12,250, which is about 95 per cent of the rate collection. Last year the rate of Is 7?d produced £9,875, also 95 per cent of that levied.

A id is expected to produce £SOO.
In addition to the main rates there are several other rates, which are met by various ratepayers. .For those people who use the sanitary collection service the rate 1 ' is £3 5s per pan. The refuse collection works out at 15s a container while the harbour board rate is fd in -the pound to produce £750. It was the same last year but then it only produced £375. The water rates are charged at 10s* for one tap outside and 5s for additional outside taps. On Hillcrest it is 15s. Patents are rated 10s.
