Fine New Hall Is Erected By Whakatane W.I.
The result of many years intensive work the newly finished hall and club rooms of the Whakatane Women’s Institute is to be officially opened at Whakatane tomorrow by the president of the New Zealand Federation of Women’s Institutes. Measuring 40 feet by 20 the hall features all the latest amenities in public buildings, including fluorescent lighting. There is al2 feet stage, cloakroom and kitchen.
The Institute has had one small building .erected for some time and this has been connected to the main building. Work of raising funds for the hall was commenced before the war and in 1939 tenders were being called for the erection of the building. When the war intervened the money raised was loaned to the Government. The process of raising money has been very Slow but hard work has brought in the funds steadily and provided the Institute with a fine headquarters. It is to be let to the public for meetings, concerts, weddings and card parties but will not be available for dances.
