MORE COMFORT IS MAIN FEATURE IN NEW BUS LINER

One of the latest bus liners in use on New Zealand roads is now running between Rotorua, Whakitane and Gisborne and is a fine ex ample of the progress made in recent years in comfort for bus tr ivellers. Operated by the Railway Road Services the vehicle features some entirely new additions and designs for more pleasant and less tedious travelling. With accommodation for 24 passengers the bus has an imposing and full .width front with the driver sitting right up forward, while the engine is lying on its side under the floor to his left. It is longer and higher than most of the present vehicles in use.

Individual Seating The passage way between the seats is rather narow. Individual seating is provided, two seats on each side. The entrance door ,’s hydraulically controlled from the driver’s seat and is placed opposite two seats, which are at the rear of the driver. These two seats are numbered 23 and 24 and all seats to the rear of these are numbered from one up to 22. Passengers booking in peats 23 and 24 will be surprised to know that they are to ocupy the front seats.

All seats are comfortably upholstered with soft head-rests. At the rear of each seat an ash and match receptacle is provided and also a spacious pocket which contains paper bags for use by those subject to car sickness.

The outside passengers have control of individual sliding windows. The front portion of each window slides to the rear giving indirect ventilation and no obstructions. The seats are all mounted very high in the body of the vehicle giving good- visability and are placed thus mainly from a safety point of view. Generous Lighting

The lighting provided throughout is on a generous scale and alongside each pair of seats there is a lamp several inches in length giving a diffused light. The, bus is beautifully finished in seyeral colours and with a liberal amount of chromium plating. The destination sign has been given a new situation just below the front windows. These windows give a very wide angle of vision.

The price is believed to be about £SOOO.
