RECORD ENTRIES FOR POULTRY AND NATIONAL DANCING
Record entries in both the poultry and National dancing took up judging of most of Friday-and Saturday at the Whakatane Winter Show, which concluded on Saturday night. By late Friday the judge, Mr J. Brooks, Hamilton, had completed the poultry while the dancing judge, Miss P. Ollisse, Rotorua, managed to finish by 6.15 p.m., after starting at 11 o’clock Saturday morning. In the poultry section Mr Brooks was highly satisfied with the exhibits and said he thought that some of the birds could have been exhibited at any show in New Zealand. The Rhode Island Red fowls were particularly good while a little red and black bantam, exhibited by McDonald and Paul, Opotiki, showed fine breeding. In the national dancing the standard in all the 300 entries was higher than it has ever been-at Whakatane. One of the most successful competitors, Miss Bobbie Henry, wan eight medals but donated them back to the Whakatane Caledonian Society for future competition. Pipers K. Ferguson, D Robb, G. Bell and G. Jackson pla - ed the music. The street procession on Saturday afternoon brought forth some weird and wonderful creations many, however, showing the touch of ingeiuity. It was watched by a large crowd.* The show was packed on Saturday and attracted visitors from many parts of the district.
