TIME NOW TO REGISTER ALL MOTOR VEHICLES
Unless there is a speed up in the rc gistration .of motor vehicles between now and the end of the month there is going to be either a rush on the post office in the final week or a number of owners will have unregistered vehicles in their possession at Whakatane. This was revealed by the post office staff yesterday when discussing the slowness of motor vehicle registration, which commenced at the beginning of the month and finishes on June 30. Of the 1850 vehicles at Whakatane, so far only 560 vehicles have been registered. This number started off at a daily average of 90 but has now dropped to 60. The result is that the special staff employed .in the post office money -erder department has had littie to do for long periods. Registration of motor vehicles is required to be done this month. The post office anticipates a rush during the next fortnight and from June 26 to 30 hours are being extended, while on June 30 the office will be open from 7 to 8 p.m. No number plates are being issued this year and all the motorists will get in return for his registration fee is a sticker. This will replace the present sticker, which should be removed.
The fees for the main three vehicle classes are: Private cars £3 8s 6d, trucks £4 10s 6d and motor cycles £1 16s 6d.
