Building Sites Are More Important

A request from the borough council asking for the river bank behind the shopping area to be cleared and walled was declined by the Whakatane Harbour Board at the bimonthly meetihg. While it was agreed that the work was required it was felt it could not be undertaken at the present time. The chairman, Mr W. R. Boon, said that cement could not be obtained for constructing walls. With the limited finance available he thought that the most important work at the present time was in making more sites available for building.
