“District Getting Raw Deal”: Power Quota & Building Permits
“The district is getting a raw deal.” That is how Mr H. G. Warren described the power allocation and building permits given to Whakatane at the bi-monthly meeting of the Harbour Board. Mr Warren said he did not think there was any other district with the cuts Whakatane had at the present time. An increased allocation was definitely needed and the same applied to buildings. He considered that the town was not being treated fairly in regard to the allocation of permits for shops and offices. Larger centres seemed to be getting the business buildings they required but not Whakatane. Other board members agreed and it was decided to write to the Minister of Building inquiring about the allocation of building pex-mits for shops and offices at Whakatane.
