Regulations Covering Use of Kauri Are To Be Revoked
Regulations to ensure a supply of higher grades of kauri for wartime needs are to be revoked, according to a statement by the Minister of Forests, Mr Corbett. The regulations .were continued after the war ended to assist essential 1 peacetime users to explore the use and supply of substitutes in the face of a steadily declining supply of kauri.
“Unfortunately, it has been too often assumed that the granting of a permit to use kauri carries an implied undertaking that kauri will be found for their needs,” said Mr Corbett. “This is frequently a physical impossibility because of the low level to which kauri production has now fallen. “The Government believes that it is no longer in the interests of industry that the control should be continued, and feels that by removing it users generally will be encouraged to adopt a more realistic altitude toward the use of substitutes.”
