ELECTRICITY

Sir, —There seems to be an epidemic of Government schemes in the world today. For example, nesse Valley, U.S.A., the English and Scotch, also the Australian Snowey River scheme, and our own litlle> pet scheme. The Waikato Hydro-electric Scheme, and others in the south. Speaking from the North Island point of view, why did a previous Government cancel out our local plants when private and local enterprise was doing a good job of work? This is one of the reasons why we are not getting (service; power wastage and costs must be taken into account on such distances as Whangarei and Whakatane. So when the powers that be, say there is a shortage of power; it is frustration of the economic balance of the country. ~ All big Government schemes tend to control the individual (centralised) control of production. And the individual looses his freedom in taxation (costs) and increased burden of debt. Seemingly those Members of Parliament who went tripping last year must have lost their balance whilst running around Tennesse under the guidance of Wall Street. So what about deviating some of those £ millions dedicated for further Waikato schemes, tb local body power plants! And the centralising racket of socialistic dictatorship! The centralised welfare setate.

Yours etc.,

W. BRADSHAW.

Whakatane, May 23,
