Settled Weather Helps Rabbiters Get Very Good Results
Results had been good in most places, said Mr C. H. Davis (Inspector of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board) in his report to the monthly meeting. During the month 19,000 acres had been poisoned and 16,700 acres fumigated. Operations had been assisted by the long period of settled weather, and the rabbiters had been able to push on with the poisoning with good results.
“As in most places in * the sea front and old areas, I am ‘finding it difficult to secure accommodation for a rabbiter and as these men will have to cover larger areas as rabbits decrease I think it may be f dvisable for your Board to start a sinking fund so that light moveable huts on whels could be built when required,” said Mr Davis in conclusion. “These could be shifted oy the truck and would soon pay for themselves in time saved travelling from camps to the job.”
