Many Assisted Immigrants Come To Whakatane
Of 40 British migrants who arrived in the Bay of Plenty this week, 36 were assisted. Twenty were assigned to forestry work, seven as herd testers in the Whakatane and Opotiki districts, three carpenters to- Whakatane employers, one linesman to the Bay of Plenty Power Board, one to a farm at Ngongotaha, three nurses to the Whakatane Hospital, and one to the Opotiki Hospital. The other four were nominated, three going to Rotorua, and one to Opotiki. On arrival, the visitors were welcomed by the Welfare Committee. Earlier six Dutch farm workers arrived for work in the Whakatane and Opotiki districts.
