POWER QUOTA HELD INADEQUATE FOR BAY AREA
Although the individual quota system of saving power is more popular than the present blackout method the Bay of Plenty Electric Power Boad does not consider such a scheme would work at Whakatane and in other areas of the Board’s district because of the in-, adequacy of the Board’s present allocation, according to an Opotiki report of the monthly meeting of the Board. It was stated that an effective application of a quota system would not be possible because it would place too great' a sacrifice on domestic consumers. The allocation of units to the Board was held to be inadequate for the essential demand of a highly productive dairying district.
It was stated that the present restrictions were adopted by the Board after the urgency of the power situation had been fully considered. A quota system was thought impossible as it would have meant a reduction by domestic consumers of 30 per cent on power consumption. Even with the present cuts the district is still over the allocation.
