LOCAL BOYS’ BRIGADE MAY ATTEND CAMP
A number of members of the Boys’ Brigade in the Bay of Plenty are expected to attend a silver jubilee camp to be held at Waipara, a small town 41 miles north of Christchurch, from December 28 to January 8, 1951. Boys will be attending from all over New Zealand and visitors are expected from the Cook Islands and Australia.
Arranged for all boys who are members of the Boys’ Brigade the camp will feature all kinds of summer sports, hikes, visits to Christchurch and surrounding centres and many other activities. The camp was arranged near Christchurch so that boys will have an oportunity to attend the Christchurch Centennial celebrations.
The total cost for boys over 16 from Whakatane for the whole trip, including rail and boat fares, is £8 13s sd, and for Taneatua boys there is a slight change to £8 14s 2d. For boys from Whakatane under 16 the charge is £6 7s 8d and Taneatua members £3 3s 2d. The price increases for officers to just over £9. From Whakatane and Taneatua those going to the camp will travel from the Bay of Plenty by train to Frankton Junction where they link on December 26 with the AucklandWellington train. Cook Strait will be crossed by the s.s. Tamahine through the Marlborough Sounds to Picton. All North Island Battalions will travel from Piction to Waipara by train. The camp is expected to be the largest yet held by the Boys’ Brigade and it is hoped that representatives will be present from Singapore, Canada and India.
