Watersiders' Dispute May Affect Cement Supply To Bay Area

The shortage of cement supplies in the Bay of Plenty, already serious, has been made even more acute because of the dispute over the British freighter, King Neptune, according to the Provincial Secretary of the Bay of Plenty Province of Federated Farmers, Mr E. J. Vosper. Mr Vosper said that part of the 800 tons of cargo which was diverted to Wellington from Auckland was cement which included a consignment for the Bay of Plenty. This is urgently needed as May and June are the only months of the year in which farmers are able to effect repairs to their cowsheds. These repairs are however, Mr Vosper pointed out, impossible without cement.
