Otakiri W.I. Holds Gay Twentieth Birthday Party
A gay birthday party held at the Otakiri Hall by the Otakiri Women’s Institute drew a good attendance of members and visitors.
Visitors were welcomed by the president, Mrs Carr. Entertainment included a “ping pong” relay, followed by the Otakiri W.I. choir singing several numbers. Competition (in black out) for the bestmade elephant torn from newspaper was won by Mrs Briggs, --i. junior member, Jill Lockyer, sang two numbers. A competition memory test was won by Mrs Lockyer.
A humorous burlesque demonstration of physical exercises by four leading figures, Mesdames Carr, Peck, Withy and Steenson, was greeted with much laughter. The birthday cake, made by Mrs Maekrell and beautifully iced by Mrs R. King, held 20 candles which were lit by the first president, Mrs Kerr. Mrs Crang, another foundation member, blew them out and cut the cake. Competitions:—

Thompson 1, Mrs Hallett 2, Mrs Hamilton 3; double flower, Mrs Carr 1, Mrs W. Mayo 2, Mrs Hallett 3; vegetable, Mrs Peck 1, Mrs G. -• Thompson 2, Mrs Mayo 3.
