The May medal round for women members of the Whakatane Golf Club was decided last week. The winners were Mesdames Donaldson, Sloane and Rivett.
War Map Envelopes War maps, printed in enormous numbers for invasion and commando use during the war, are still being used in England for various purposes. Envelopes made from the maps are finding their way to New Zealand from Britain, where they are still in stock just on five ; cars since the war in Europe ended.
Milk Price Goes Up Orders authorising the new price of milk, 8d per quart in most districts, are gazetted this week and will come into force next Monday. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Bowden, says that in a few districts where high distribution cost prevailed, the past practice of allowing an additional penny a quart will be continued. ;Tlate House Building
The Government intends to continue building houses for those who -ire not in a position to build their own. The Minister in charge of the State Advances Corporation. Mr J. R. Marshall, said this in commenting on a report that Auckland builders feared that no more State house contracts would be let when present contracts were completed and were looking for other work.
Successful Opossum Hunt Moonlight proved fatal for over 150 inhabitants of the Onaero River Valey, Taranaki}. They were marauding opossums who devastated a farmer’s four-acre paddock of swedes recently. Five young men with guns and dogs hunted them down at night. They shook them from trees like ripe fruit, found .warms in old trees and shot and killed them until their ammunition ran out at 2 o’clock in the morning.
