Land And Water Dog Trials Are Popular With Sportsmen
The Whakatane County Rod and Gun Club held a successful land and water trial for sporting dogs at Poroporo on Sunday. The entries were encouraging to the promoters, who hope to hold further trials if sportsmen are sufficiently interested. A number of spectators were interested in seeing the dogs working in readiness for the forthcoming season.
Judging for the events was done by Messrs W. Howat\ Snr. and A. Burgess. Results:— Open Class Land for Mr J. D. Rivett’s Cup: S. Cave’s Labrador 1, S. Bennett’s Blue Belton Setter 2, J. Harris’s Irish Setter 3; 13 entries. Water Open Class for Mr J. Plamus’s Cup: S. 'Cave’s Labrador 1, F. Matchitt’s Labrador 2, H; Jackson’s English Setter 3; 10 entries. Puppies’ Land for Mr S. Hirst’s Cup: J. Rivett’s English Setter 1, F. Newton’s Labrador 2, F. Matchitt’s Lamrador 3; 5 entriieb. Water Puppies, for Mr F. Cameron’s Cup: F. Matchitt’s Labrador 1, F. Newton’s Labrador 2; 5 entries.
