ALLOCATION OF STATE HOUSES IN BAY CONTINUES
During the quarter ended March 31, 1950, 125 State houses were let or re-let throughout the WaikatoBay of Plenty district, according to information released by the manager of the State Advances Corporation at Hamilton.
Of these tenancies 60 were granted to applicants eligible for the preference extended to certain classes of ex-servicemen and 65 were allocated to civilians. The civilian alocations included one at Whakatane and one at Edgecumbe. During the quarter ended March 31. 395 new applications were lodged in the district for State tenancies, 310 being from civlians and 85 from ex-servicemen. The total number of unsatisfied applications on hand at the close of the quarter was 3360 of which 2586 were from civilians and 774 from ex-servicemen.
The number of State Rental Houses already completed in the Waikato-Bay of Plenty district is 2446 and 553 more houses are in course of erection.
From the inception of the Government’s present housing scheme up to March 31, 32,238 new tenancies have been made available throughout the Dominion to applicants in both the civilian and the ex-servicemen categories. N
