Bay of Plenty Second A second place was gained by the Bay of Plenty in the North Island district lamb competition judged in the United Kingdom. Waikato was first and North Auckland third.
Women’s Meeting There was a good attendance to the annual meeting of the Whalcatane Women’s National Party Committee. Miss A. North was elected president and Mrs F. Gartshore secretary.
Dog Trials Land and water trials for puppies and open classes are planned by the Whakatane County Rod and Gun Club. Birds are to be used. Previous announcements of these intended trials have created much interest among sporting dog owners. The trials will probably last all day, commencing about 10 a.m.
Heavy Seas The coast about Whakatane was severely lashed by heavy seas Sunday night and all day Monday. Huge breakers washed in against the narbour mouth wljile on the beach of the sandhills across from the town waves crashed far up the sand. Part of the sand spit stretching out into the river was washed away.
Wasps In Bay A recommendation to the Department of Agriculture that the destruction of wasps be more actively pursued on a national basis was made by the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Sub-Province of Auckland Federated Farmers. This followed a fairly full discussion when it was mentioned that the wasp menace had now reached a serious stage in the Bay of Plenty.
