Price Of Sugar To increase On Future Supplies
An increase of one halfpenny per pound in the retail price of sugar is made by a price order published in the Gazette. It will become operative when current stocks of sugar are exhausted. There will also be consequential] increases in the price of golden sugar and treacle. It is understood that the reason for this advance in sugar prices is an increase in the price of raw sugar bought under arrangements with the Ministry of Food. The new. maximum retail price for sugar sold over the counter will be 6d a pound. If the value of a retail lot calculated at this price is not an exact number of pence or halfpence, the maximum price for the lot shall be calculated to the nearest upward half-penny. An extra farthing a pound will be payable if the sugar is delivered or the sale is not for cash.
