Whakatane Joins Eastern Bay BasketBall Association
A decision to form the Eastern Bay of Plenty Basketball Association and to seek affiliation with the New Zealand Council was reached by delegates of the Whakatane and Opotiki Basketball Associations at a meeting at Opotiki on Saturday. An interim committee was set up in the meantime to set about linking the associations and also of arranging the New Zealand affiliation. An attempt is to be made to try and have Apanui join the Association.
This new link now the eastern area, should the New Zealand Council accept the affiliation, will be able to send a team to the New Zealand Championships, have delegates sit on the Council, while the champion teams of each district will meet to decide the champion of champions for the whole of the Eastern Association each year. Mesdames W. Dippie, I. Shapley, J. Yates (Whakatane), C. Calvert, J. Walker and Mr Mills (Opotiki).
Basketball Opening On May 1 27
The basketball season is to commence at Whakatane on May 27 with a tournament on the Domain Courts. This was decided at the annual meeting of the Whakatane Basketball Association. Officers elected: —
President, Mrs W. Dippy; secretary, Mrs J. Yates; result and registration steward, Mrs I. Shapley; committee, Mesdames R. Rowson, H. Todman, J. Keepa.
