ARRANGEMENTS TO OBSERVE ANZAC DAY IN BOROUGH

Extensive arrangements have been made to observe Anzac Day at Whakatane on Tuesday. There P to be the usual procession through the town, the combined service at the Pohaturoa Rock and laying of wreaths followed by the march past. The guard of honour this year will be made up of the Whakatane High School cadets under the command of Major H. Craig.

Organisations who wil be taking part in the parade will be required to gather at the old wharf at 10.30 am. in the following order: — Saint Andrew’s Pipe Band leading, returned servicemen, home servicemen, Legion of Frontiersmen, Air Training Corps, scouts, girl guides and brownies. As soon as the procession is formed it will move off and march to the Cenotaph at the Rock where the combined service is to be held at 11 a.m. This will be followed by the laying of wreaths. Following this the procession will move off again in the march past back to the old wharf where it will be dispersed. Aftgr this luncheon has been arranged for returned ex-servicemen and their families at the King Street Hail and this is to be followed by the annual meeting of the Whakatane Returned Services’ Association at 1.30 p.m.
