Bowling

WHAKATANE TEAM WINS TOURNAMENT The Seventh Annual Easter Tournament of the Whakatane Bowling Club commenced on Friday with a total of 25 teams competing and continued over the week-end. The greens were rather holding during the first morning but gradually livened up and by mid-afternoon were playing well. The standard of play was well up to the usual tournament play and some very fine games were witnessed.

This year the tournament was played in two sections, one at Whakatane and the other on Ohope.

In both sections Whakatane teams qualified and the final was fought out between a Raglan four, G. T. Senwick, T. S. Holmes, T. Stephens, R. Pearce (s), which was defeated by the Whakatane team, H. Pearson, C. Hollis, G. Oswald, R. L. Murphy (s), the unbeaten combination of the tournament, who won 23-19. In the A section two Whakaffene teams and a Raglan team qualified while the B section saw two Whakatane teams waiting to contest the next round.
