POWER CUTS TO CONTINUE BUT NONE FRIDAY

So _that there will be no power cut tonight and other Friday evenings the ordinary evening cut from €.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. has been extended by a quarter of an hour on other nights during the week, with the exception of Sunday when the power will still remain off for the usual hour. Stating this last night the borough electrical engineer, Mr F. W. Lysaght, said that this new arrangement had been made in an effort to provide an uninterrupted late Friday shopping night. The extended cut was started last night. As it now stands the power will be off from 6.30 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. Monday to Thursday and also Saturday. There is no cut on Friday and on Sunday the cut is from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 f p.m. This new ! arrangement provides for an extra quarter of an hour a week but this is expected to be used up on Friday. Mr Lysaght emphasised the need for continued saving of power. The situation was still very acute and if the present restrictions did not bring consumption down he pointed out that further measures, some more drastic, would have to be taken.

If the consumption is still up next week it is planned to bring in a Sunday cut from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting from April 23. Only an immediate rise in the amount of power being saved will avoid this. However, present indications are that this cut will be introduced.

Mr Lysaght revealed that, if necessary, a further nightly cut was being considered and would be brought in if the present measures and the Sunday effort were of no avail. In this cut power will be turned off from 1030 p.m. to 1.30 a.m. each night. The matter now rests with consumers, the engineer added. There was no way out of the present position except by strict economising of power at all times. PPo PhaPP of power at all times. Power had to be saved and unless the people saved cuts and still more cuts would have to be employed until the Von-r sumption was brought down to within the required allocation.
