POWER CUTS

Sir, —May I through your columns protest to the Bay of Plenty Power Board re the introduction of the nightly black-out. To my way of thinking the hour without power in the evening is the most unpleasant method possible of conserving power. We are all agreed and understand that it is most necessary to conserve power at the present time. However every consumer pays for the power he uses, and it is my belief is entitled to say how he will use that which he pays for. Why cannot our board ration power as so many boards are doing? Our next door neighbour, Rotorua for instance. Each person then may decide for himself how he will use his ration. I feel that more power would be saved in that way and would be saved in whatever way suits the individual consumer best. It would also prevent the always present non-co-opera-tive person from using units extravagantly during the period when power is available.

There is the fact that the Whakatane Borough are using so much electricity above their quota yet the County are having exactly the same cut. Is there some explanation for this?

Yours etc., DORIS M. GREY.

Taneatua, April 3
