Further Power Cuts Being Considered In Bay Of Plenty

Although the consumption of power in the Bay of Plenty Board’s area dropped slightly over Easter it was no where near the required figure the manager, Mr J. D. Dicker, said jmsterday. The drop/ could probably be acocunted for by the fact that more industrial machinery and similar sources of consumption were not calling on power over the week-end. Mr Dicker warned that strict conservation of power was still required everywhere. The present acute position was still very serious and did not show any sign of improvement. He said that although the present evening cut of one hour had helped it was not enough. It would be continued in the meantime but further cuts were being considered. The Board’s area also includes the Whakatane Borough where consumption is still high.
