NORTH ISLAND GLADIOLUS SHOW FOR WHAKATANE
The subject which occupied the most time at the annual meeting of the Whakatane Gladiolus Society was the forthcoming Dominion Gladiolus Federation’s North Island 'National Show, which is to be held in conjunction with the Society’s Fourth Annual Show at Whakatane next season, The president, Mr F. P. McCallion, spoke on the importance of this show to the Society and also to Whakatane. He said that the Society was both proud and honoured that such an important function should be allotted to the town. It was another step towards putting Whakatane on the map, as in the past it had been usual to hold National Shows in the Cities. This was the first time that a town as small as Whakatane had been so honoured, and it was hoped til at it would receive not only the support of all gladiolus enthusiasts, but. also the wholehearted support of the public of Whakatane and surrounding districts as well. The tentative dates at present decided on are December 12 and 13, 1650. It is hoped that it may be of two days duration, and pending negotiations with the Dominion Gladiolus Federation these points may not yet be finalised, and must a T 'ait a further meeting.
Amongst other business, it whs decided to hold meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month in the Women’s Institute room.
