WEDDING BELLS

NIELSEN—STARNES

Assisted by the Rev H. Hogg, of Whakatane, the Rev J. H. Starnes performed the ceremony at the wedding of his daughter, Bernice, to Eric, son of Mr and the late Mrs Jens Nielsen, held at Edgecumbe. The bride was given away by her uncle, Mr A. Roberts, Clevedon. She wore a beautiful trained gown of ivory embossed velvet, the pointed bodice fastening with tiny buttons down the back and the long sleeves ending in points over the hand.

The embroidered tulle veil was becomingly arranged with a coronet of daisies and orange blossom and the triple string of pearls was the gift of the bridegroom. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Cherry Ward, Edgecumbe, wore a rose coloured frock of net over taffeta made with a deep frill of net outlining the round neck, puffed sleeves, and the hem caught up with pink and blue flowers to tone. Miss Nancy Nielsen, the bridegroom’s sister, wore a similar frock in lavender blue caught up with flowers. Both maids wore tiara head dresses of flowers toning with the frocks and mittens.

The little flower girl was four-year-oid Peggy Pattison, Edgecumbe, who wore a floor length frock of primrose Swiss organdie with a pin tucked bodice and puffed sleeves.

The ushers were Messrs George Murray (junior) and Platt Gow. As she left the church the bride was presented with a cream floral horse shoe by Ann Pattison. The reception was held in the church hall wher the guests were recieved by Mrs Starnes, who wore a wine coloured silk frock with hat to match and a floral spray of creamy gold flowers. Mr and Mrs Nielsen later left on a tour of New Zealand, Mrs Nielsen wearing a light wool frock of powder blue with hat and coat to match, black accessories and a pink floral spray.
