COUNSEL LEAVES COURT: HAD WORDS WITH MAGISTRATE

After placing an objection on behalf of his client to a decision given by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court yesterday Mr W. G. .Clavis withdrew from the case after his objection was over ruled. Twice Mr Clavis objected and on each occasion he was over ruled.

When this particular case came forward to be heard Mr B. S. Barry asked permission to appear on behalf of a man whose name might be mentioned in the case. This request wa§_ granted by Mr Walton. Immediately Mr Clavis placed an objection. This was over ruled. Again Mr Clavis objected but the magistrate told him he could not do so. Mr Clavis declared he was entitled to object on behalf of his client. Mr Walton ’ replied that Mr Clavis could not tell him what to do. He had granted Mr Barry his request. He then told Mr Clavis he did not want to hear him until later.

Following this Mr Clavis begged leave to withdraw from the case. This was granted and he left immediately.
