Care of Children

Order for custody of two children was granted Trevor Wallace Ardern, driver, Whakatane, over respondent Lillian Irene Rose Ardern, married, Auckland, by Mr E. L. Walton yesterday. Extensive evidence was heard and one witness was called. Was Not Sure “Do you think you should assist the police in the detection of offences?” Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., asked a in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Replied the witness, who obviously was not sure: I don’t know. It just depends.

Judgment Summons Order In a judgment summons order at Whakatane yesterday Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., ordered Noki Tiopira, Whakatane, to pay Bell & Hodgson (Mr Barry), Waimana, £34 6s 2d and costs £2 5s forthwith, in default 30 days’ gaol, warrant to be suspended if £1 paid by May 2 and £1 per month thereafter.

Converted Bicycle

Because he had no way of getting back to his home at Waimana Tupaea Kohunui, labourer, converted a bicycle at Whakatane on March 7. The sequel was a fine of £5, costs 10s, imposed by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., at Whakatane yesterday. Kohunui was placed under supervision of the probation officer until the fine is paid.

Borrowed & Sold Horse

After borrowing a horse just before Christmas, Timothy Gilbert Lewis, Ruatoki, sold it for £6 and then left the district, senior sergeant F. M. Fuller told Mr E. L. Walton, S.M. in the Whakatane Magistrate's Court yesterday. Lewis was convicted and placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to make restitution of the £6 with costs <£2 4s.

Order For Possession

An order for possession of an Edgecumbe house at present occupied by the family of Stanley Porter, now working at Te Puke, was granted the owners George . Syrrie

and Co. Ltd. (Mr Barry), sawmillers, Edgecumbe, by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., yesterday. Porter was ordered to vacate the house on or before May 5.
