MOST WHAKATANE BUSINESSES WILL CLOSE AT EASTER

For most businesses at Whakatane. over Easter holidays will be observed from Friday to Monday and housewives will have to make arrangements accordingly to get in extra provisions to last over that period. Most food shops will be closed until Tuesday while both the post office and railways have had to alter their hours of service. The late shopping night this week is to be held tomorrow when all shops will remain open until 8.30 p.m. Saturday will, in most cases, be treated as an ordinary Saturday but Friday every business will be closed. Sunday will be observed as usual but Monday will be a holiday for most people, being similar to the ordinary Saturday. > Schools will take the usual holidays. They will breakup tomorrow and resume on Wednesday morning. The following are the arrangements for the different businesses ever Easter:—

Bakers: The last bread baked will be tomorrow morning and the next will be on Tuesday. The same applies to home cookery shops. Garages: The usual Friday hours will be observed tomorrow. On Friday all garages will be closed except an emergency garage, which will observe Sunday hours. Any garage may open on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon but an emergency station will be open from 2 p.m. to A- p.m. An emergency station only wil be open on Sunday. On Monday all stations will be open from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. with an emergency station open from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Road Services: Normal Friday services will operate tomorrow. On Friday all services will operate except the usual service to Waiohau, which will run tomorrow. The normal services will run on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The office will be open each day except Sunday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Post Office: Tomorrow the hours will be the same as the usual Friday, the exchange will be operating continuously. On Friday and Monday urgent telegrams only may be sent. Mails will be despatched as usual on Saturday but only to the principle offices on Monday. There will be no postal or rural deliveries Friday, Saturday and Monday. Normal week-end hours will be observed Saturday. Chemists: A chemist will be open on Saturday and Monday between the hours of 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on noth days.
