Whakatane Athletes’ Great Success At Opotiki Sports
Twenty placings were gained by Whakatane competitors at the Opotiki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club’s sports meeting at Opotiki on Saturday. This was a particularly fine performance from a club that has just started this year. Whakatane athletes were placed in nearly all events and in the women’s 100 yards the first three home were M. Lynds, J. Bridger and D. Stewart, all school girls of Whakatane, who finished in that order. In the men’s mile J. Chadwick scored a fine win' while the junior men’s 100 yards went to the champion secondary school runner of the Bay of Plenty and the Whakatane High School, L. Armstrong.

Boy’s under 15yrs broad jump: J. Ross 3. Men’s 880yds open: J. Chadwick 3. Junior men’s 440yds: D. Powley 2. ’Boys’ under 15yrs 880yds: J. Ross f. Senior men’s 440yds: J. Chadwick 3. Men’s hop, step and jump: J. Chadwick 3.. Senior cycle, 1 mile: A. Taylor 3. Junior cycle, 1 mile: I. McKenzie 1. Men’s cycle, 3 miles: A. Taylor 2.
