FINAL WILLIAMS CUP CHALLENGE The main cricket attraction at Whakatane tomorrow will be the Williams Cup challenge to be faced by United against the previous Cup holders, Te Puke, to be played at the showgrounds. Te Puke held the trophy at the beginning of the season but in their first challenge United took the Cup and have withstood all attempts to take it from them. Tomorrow’s game will be the final challenge of the season, Te Puke having the right to claim this last match.
The Williams Cup can be challenged for by any affiliated club in the Bay of Plenty so that the holders are usually regarded as the champion club of the district. For this reason both clubs have selected strong teams for this last challenge and some good cricket is expected. . On Sunday the knockout competition of the Whakatane Cricket Association will be continued between P. and T. -and Taneatua at the Whakatane Domain. Cricket enthusiasts will therefore hav.e the opportunity of following a full week-end’s cricket in the town. CRICKET TEAM Following is the United team to play tomorrow: N. Rigden, L. Spring, I. Wyatt, W. Crawford, W. Kirk, W. McKenzie, M. Le Pine, D. Bull, J. Yates, W. Alexander, G. Hammond. All players to be on the ground at 9 a.m.
