OHOPE TEAMS WIN OPEN TOURNAMENT Two unbeaten teams in section play, skipped by Duley (Ohope) and Harper (Te Puke) staged an interesting final over ten heads, at the open bowling tournament held bh the Te Puke green during the week-end. At the end of the seventh head the home four were leading by 4 points to 3, but afterwards the visitors scored well and were victoiuous by 9 points to 4.

Outside clubs, including Whakatane, Ohope, Taneatua and Matata, were strongly represented in a field of 18 teams which was divided into two sections. A bye was drawn in each of the five rounds of ten heads.

In the A section Berg (Whakatane) had three wins, Foster (Taneatua) three, Wilkinson (Matata) two and Davis (Matata) one. In the B section Duley (Ohope) was the winner with five wins, Murphy (Taneatua) had three, Dixon (Whakatane) two, Frost (Matata) two and Jones (Matata) two.

TANEATUA WINS McCALLISTER SHIELD

With a two point lead on the aggregate score at the end of play Taneatua defeated Whakatane in a representative bowling match for the final of the McCallister Challenge Shield played at Taneatua on Wednesday. Play was very even throughout with the only big win being in the first year players’ game when Whakatane won 34-12.
