LESS ENTRIES FOR Y.F.C. PIG JUDGING COMPETITION

With entries smaller than last year and only three breeds, berkshire, large white and tamworths, being represented there was less competition and apparently less interest at the porker and baconer competition of the number two zone of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Young Farmers’ Clubs hoof judging day held at.* Edgecumbe on Monday. There was a fair crowd . present woith only Thornton and Awakeri being represented.

Valuable information was given by the judge, Mr A. F. Barwell, district pig supervisor, Whakatane, as he commented on each rejected animal as, it left the ring. Following the judging he said, that although the 4 tip pigs were not outstanding they were of uniformly good quality. He pointed out too that nobody had correctly completed a form for the Certificate of Merit, as the birth dates had beeri omitted. Altogether a total nine baconers and 14 porkers were received for the competition. Results: —

Baconers: C. A. and D. G. Martin, Awakeri (berkshire) 1, A. Black Awakeri (berkshire and large white) 2, T. G. ;l Shaw, Thornton (berkshire) 3. Porkers: G. Walker, Thornton (tamworth) 1,; J. Barr, Awakeri (berkshire and large white) 2, G. Walker, Thornton (tamworth) 3.
