Monthly Newspaper Printed By Ruatoki Maori High School
Although most post primary and district high schools publish an annual magazine few can claim a monthly newspaper as printed by the Ruatoki Maori District High School. Consisting of contributions from all pupils the aim of the paper is to encourage a fine school spirit and to teach the responsibility of each member of the school to the community of Ruatoki. Reports of different functions, articles on what a school stands for, Maori fairy tales and legends and stories of true experiences, such as a trip pig hunting, are all included and they make interesting reading. Some of the writers show a surprisingly high standard of English for a district where the main spoken language is Maori. The newspaper is now in its third volume and from all reports is an expected monthly treat at the school read not only by the pupils but also by many outsiders.
