Ten Thousand Sheep Were Yarded At Te Puke Special Sale
Ten thousand sheep which was considerably more than the advertised number were yarded for the special sheep sale of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., at Te Puke on Thursday. Although values on the whole were below those of earlier sheep fairs a very good clearance was effected and only a small portion of the yarding was not sold. The sheep from the East Coast came forward in fairly good order but they showed the effects of the trying conditions now being experienced on the roads through shortage of water and* feed. Sheep offered on account of local farmers met with a ready sale at improved prices. The following is a range of prices realised: —
Good shorn B.F. Lambs, 24s to 26s Id; others, 15s to 21s; 2-tooth ewes, £2 6s to £2 15s; 4-tooth ewes, £2 2s to £2 8s; 6-tooth ewes, £2 Is to £2 ss; 4-year ewes £2 to £2 2s; good 5-year ewes, £1 19s to £2 Is 6d; smaller framed and poorer conditioned 5-year ewes, 32s 6d to 345; 6-year ewes, 28s to 325; -sound mouthed ewes, in good condition, 25s to 275; failing mouthed , ewes, 15s to 225; 2-tooth wethers,* 37s to 395.
