RECORD SHOW HAS PROBLEMS FOR ALL HANDS

Climax to terrific effort on the part of the organising officials and particularly the secretary, Mr T. H. Morgan and his staff, Saturday’s record show by its very success created some problem. Marshal of the grand parade, Mr L. H. Brown, had to do some quick thinking to get everything packed into a ring that began to look smaller and smaller as cattle, horses and various types of vehicles poured in. The parade, led by the Opotiki and Whakatane Caledonian Highland Pipe Bands, followed by the girls’ marching teams, was impressive indeed and illustrated as nothing else could have done just how much the show has grown since last year. Best indication of all of the progress was the record gate figure of £414 6s indicating an attendance of close on id,ooo. /

Something like 3000 entries gave the Beacon a problem, too. We had figured on about 4\ columns of results. It worked out nearer six, which meant that some, the national dancing and children’s school work sections, had to be held over until today. These results are on page seven.
