Whakatane Woman Addresses Matata W.I. On Scotland

An interesting talk on Scotland was the subject of a talk by Mrs K. Stewart, Whakatane, to a large gathering at the monthly meeting of the Matata Women’s Institute.

After the business was completed a number of parents and pupils frpm Matata Maori and the Convent Schools attended to farewell Nurse Bowley, of the school dental clinic, who has been promoted to Gisborne. Her place is being taken by Nurse Garland. 3 Sheafs of flowers were presented to both guests,, while speeches were made by Mr Dredge and pupils from both schools. A cheque was presented to Nurse Bowley from parents of the combipek Matata . ahd Manawahe Schools.

Competition results: Asters, Mrs H. Laughesen 1, Mrs B. Marr 2; sheaf flowers, Mrs R. Withy 1, Mrs W. Warbrick 2, Mrs Jamieson and Mrs Smith 3 equal; machine-made supper cloth, Mrs D. Taylor 1, Mrs Jamieson 2; -three small cakes, Mrs Taylor 1, Mrs Jamieson 2, Mrs J. Dredge 3; best flower, Mrs Jamieson I, Mrs.Warbrick 2,“Mrs Taylor 3; best vegetable, Mrs Taylor 1, Mrs Warbrick 2.
