Character Comes Before Money
Once, years ago, the greatest American banker, Pierpont Morgan, was giving evidence about banking before a political committee. He was dsked: “Is not commercial credit based primarily on money or property?” “No,” said Morgan. “The first thing is character. Character comes before money or anything else. A man I do not trust could not get money from me on all the bonds in Christendom.”
