Dissatisfaction With Main Highway To Bay Of Plenty
The poor condition of State highways into the Bay of Plenty has drawn much adverse comment from travellers to the district and different local bodies. So bad is the Tauranga-Waihi highway representations have been made to the Main Highways Board. The Tauranga Chamber of Commerce has decided to approach the Main Highways Board stating that it was-strongly in favour of the proposed new road being commenced at the earliest possible date, but in the meantime the board should consider sealing the unsealed portions of the highway.
At a recent meeting it was stated that the whole question was linked with the general progress of the Bay of Plenty. Roads were the very life blood of the community and to have such a highway leading into the capital of the Bay of Plenty was a disgrace. Such a state of affairs should not, he claimed, be tolerated much longer.
