Whakatane Farmer Is Keen On Trying Aerial Topdressing
Following the publication in the Beacon of an article on aerial topdressing in New Zealand and with reference to the Bay of Plenty a farmer walked into the office the other day and made further inquiries of the possibility of obtaining such a service for his farm near Whakatane. He explained that half of his property was hill country and with the shortage of labour as it stands today he had no hope of ever topdressing the area. This farmer’s idea was to go into such a scheme with about five other farmers and thus help to lower the costs. The difficulty would be a suitable landing field but he thought it should be possible to get one without much difficulty. He realised that the nearest aircraft available would be Tauranga and some expense would be entailed in bringing the planes across to the district.
However, this farmer has only reached the planning stage but he hopes to begin aerial topdressing in the district if he can enlist the aid of neighbouring farmers in the not too distant future.
