BOROUGH AREA STILL EXCEEDS POWER QUOTA
The Whakatane Borough Council has been asked to advise the Bay of Plenty Power Board of the steps it is taking to assist in keeping power consumption within the borough’s quota. This was revealed at the monthly meeting of the Council when a letter was received referring to power restrictions. _
- The letter advised that the Board had been approached by the Electricity Controller pointing out the excess consumption over the allocation for this area. He wanted to know what steps were being taken, or were proposed, to reduce consumption. About Everything
Discussing the letter the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, said, he did not know whether the Council could do any more than it had done in the past. It had done just about everything so far. Cr H. G. Warren suggested further appeals through the press but the deputy-mayor, Mr C. S. Armstrong, pointed out that this was already being done. Figures of the consumption of power above the allocation were also received from the Board.
The week ending January 1 the town was 1.07 per cent over; January 8 .19 per cent below, January 15 1.46 per cent over, January 22 1.88 per cent over and for the week to January 29 3.62 per cent over the allocation.
Still Increasing Mr Barry pointed out that it was on the increase all the time.
Cr W. Sullivan: The position does not look very serious to me.
However, the Mayor replied that the borough was over its allocation now but this was only the summer period. It looked like increasing.
