Stole Lamp William Wharewera, grocer assistant, Piripai, was convfcted and fined £lO, costs 255, for stealing a bicycle lamp valued at £1 5s and a pump at Whakatane on October 19“, 1949. He was ordered to make restitution of the articles.
Dangerous Driving A fine of £3, costs £2 9s, was imposed on Takawai Edwards, motor driver, Te Teko, for operating a passenger vehicle in a dangerous manner. A similar charge was brought against William James Dredge, ; taxi driver, Matata. He was fined £3, £osts £1 11s. Unlawful Sale

of the Licensing Act he was fined £5, costs £l.
Celebrated With “Uke”
While celebrating the new year on December 30, Tom Wahaponga Kingi, Paroa, took a ukelele valued at £1 15s. He told Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., just before he was convicted and fined £5, costs 15s, that he had had no intention of taking the instrument. He had used it to celebrate the new year but had got drunk and could not remember what he had done.
