Whakatane-Rotorua Main Highway Now In Very Bad State
Most of the unsealed portions of the main Whakatane-Rotorua highway • are now in a very bad state of repair. Deep corrugations, ruts, holes of loose metal have brought the road to what is considered one of the worst states? it has ever been in the past few years. Along with all this clouds of dust are raised by every vehicle travelling at normal speed and this is causing much annoyance to both travellers and people residing near the road. The present dry spell has not helped road workmen but has added to the quickly deteriorating surface. One car which left Whakatane early Monday morning did the journey to Rotorua in 11 hours but the return trip in the evening took just under 2i hours, the travellers at times being held~up at several points until dust had cleared from the road.
