Grass Fire A grass fire down Landing Road, Whakatane, paused little damage on Monday afternoon and was soon extinguished by the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade. The brigade received a call at 4.20 p.m. and attended the outbreak where the only equipment required to be used was a hose.
Road Repairs Repairs are to be carried out on the Rotoehu and Pongakawa roads for which additional funds are to be made available by the Rotorua County Council, according to advice received by the Tauranga County Council. An inspection after heavy rains in the area showed that sections of the roads were almost impassable. Placed on Probation
Charged with stealing £SO Johnson Kepa Hape (Mr Biddle) Ohope, was placed on probation for two years and ordered to take out a prohibition order for that period by Mr E. L. Walton. S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He was ordered# to return £3O, which was found on him by the police and to make restitution of a further £2O that he had already spent.
Field Days At Massey College
Farmers and their wives will have two opportunities this year of attending together at field days at Massey College. In response to requests, the College has arranged for an outing for dairy farmers and country women for March 15, and for sheep farmers and their wives a fortnight later on March 29. Both days will commence at 10 a.m. The women will conducted over the horticultural and rose gardens and the poultry farm.
