Experimental Wall
A masonry wall faced with more than 2,000 specimens of stones from 47 States of the United States and 16 other countries Has been erected at the U.S. National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. It will be used to study all phases of weathering on numerous varieties of building stone. The wall was built so that the weathering of stone could be studied in one structure. Studies include permanence of colour, discoloration, effects of combining different types of stone, waterproofing, durability, and dimensional stability.
