WHAKATANE STARTERS IN BAY CHAMPION SHIPS ♦ Though none of its members have yet had carnival experience, the Whakatane Amateur Swimming Club has decided to nominate a team to compete in, the Bay' of Plenty junior and intermediate Amateur Swimming championships run by the Bay of Plenty Centre of the N.Z.A.S.A. at Rotorua tomorrow week January 28. Three girls and two boys have been nominated, and the Club is organising transport for other Club members and parents to go through to see the carnival. Whakatane competitors will be: Mary Kilgour, junior girls’ ,50yds freestyle championship and 50yds girls junior open handicap; Nancy Kilgour, open gliding event; Fay Cantrell, intermediate girls’ freestyle and 50yds breaststroke championships; Rex Gillard, intermediate .boys’ 50yds breaststroke championship and 50yds open breaststroke handicap; Barry Cave, intermediate boys’ 50yds backstroke championship and open freestyle handicap.
