Te Whaiti Bridge Ready This Year

Progress on the new traffic bridge across the Whirinaki stream at Te Whaiti is proceeding slowly. The new structure, a two-way 200 ft. concrete bridge, is estimated to cost £20,000 and was started two years ago by the Works Department, and is expected to be completed this year. Nearly six years ago the old wooden bridge was washed away in a severe flood, which put part of the main Waikaremoana road under ten feet of water. Soon after a Bailey Army type brid<*« was constructed and this is still serving and taking a heavy volume of traffic.
