Insuring Doctors Against Claims For Negligence
The future policy of the Thames Hospital Board is to have all its medical staff insured against acts of negligence, according to a resolution passed at its last meeting. This decision followed on a circular letter from the Hospital Boards’ Association stating that a query by the Cook Hospital Board, and giving legal advice on the matter by the association’s solicitors.
One paragraph said that “unquestionably a medical practitioner has a personal risk against, which he should be insured, because he is directly liable to a patient for his own negligence and is liable to have to indemnify the board if the patient should sue the board.”
